The Uzbekistan's textile tradition of ikat
The culture of ikat is Uzbekistan’s ancient textile traditions. Muhayo Aliyeva founded the Bibi Hanum workshop to revive this culture in the 21st century.
“I was so passionate about (ikat),” she said. “The more I learned about it, the more I knew we had to revive it.”

The workshop has tailored the traditionally large, wide pieces to reflect 21st-century styles. Bibi Hanum offers coats, dresses and accessories in vivid colors and bold patterns.
These traditional garments are very popular nowadays. The ikat technique has been wildly used all over Central Asian region.
